Bio Austria

Bio Austria

With around 12,500 member companies, BIO AUSTRIA is the largest organic farmers' association in Europe and represents organic farming in Austria. BIO AUSTRIA is a driving force for the greening of agriculture and the supply of healthy food.

BIO AUSTRIA quality assurance begins with the origin of the BIO AUSTRIA raw materials used by BIO AUSTRIA members. These are checked for compliance with the BIO AUSTRIA standard as part of the annual organic inspection.

Customer benefit

BIO AUSTRIA stipulates that the entire operation is managed organically in the sense of circular economy. A positive humus balance should be achieved through the type of cultivation.
When it comes to animal livestock farming, the requirements are higher than those stipulated by the Animal Welfare Act and the EU Organic Regulation. These relate to the exercise area, lying areas, maximum population, stable equipment, etc.
BIO AUSTRIA is the only organic association to have included in the guidelines the obligatory rearing of brother roosters and the obligatory grazing for dairy cows. The primary goal is to feed the farm's own feed, the import of feed is subject to approval.
In order to promote biodiversity, year-round greening is required for orchards and vineyards. In addition, BIO AUSTRIA member companies are committed to observing social justice towards all employees who work on BIO AUSTRIA farms.

Guidelines

In addition to the EU Organic Regulation, BIO AUSTRIA farmers also comply with the BIO AUSTRIA guidelines that go beyond this. This is a set of rules that is constantly being further developed by BIO AUSTRIA farmers with regard to our shared values of ecology, animal dignity, fairness and responsibility.
