The Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative aimed at sustainable palm oil products. Members of the RSPO come from a wide range of backgrounds and include plantations, palm oil product manufacturers and retailers who sell palm oil products, environmental groups and social NGOs.
For retail chains and manufacturers of end consumer products, RSPO offers its members an accredited system for the traceability of the raw materials used and sustainably produced and a trademark for labeling end consumer products.
GuidelinesTo achieve its goals, RSPO has 2 systems in place:
RSPO Principles and Criteria (P&C)
This set of rules of the "Principles and Criteria" ensures sustainability at the agricultural level. It comprises a series of principles, criteria, indicators and guidelines for use by palm oil producers who want to implement sustainable production processes and have them checked by certification bodies.
RSPO Supply Chain Certification Standard (SCCS)
The supply chain of all downstream companies that process and/or use palm oil products in their products (e.g. refineries, food and cosmetics industry, cleaning agents) must also be audited and certified, if you also want to pass on the sustainability according to RSPO to the buyers or end consumers. This system is called "Supply Chain Certification Standard" (SCCS) or also supply chain certification system.
